I believe you have potential in you. I want to help you reach it. My goal is to offer a place of stability and safety, so you can explore the meaning of your past experiences and how to operate in your day-to-day life in a way that feels healthy and authentic to you.
I’m Amanda, a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults in the Flint area who are struggling with feeling defeated by the system, are battling injustices (racial, identity, economic, etc.), are processing significant changes in life, and need to learn ways to cope.
My approach to therapy is nontraditional and totally focused on you. We’re going to talk about your current experiences and your childhood, identifying ways your past may have influenced how you’re feeling today. But it’s not all talk, either -- we’re also going to look at your behaviors and develop meaningful coping skills that you can take outside of the therapy room. I also believe that knowledge is power, so you’ll walk away from counseling with an understanding not only of who you are but the ways that your mental health can influence every aspect of your life.
If you are looking for a stuffy, buttoned-up therapist, I’m not the one for you. Sessions with me are casual and laid back -- I am focused on creating a space where you can be fully you, however that looks today. As a member of the queer community, it’s my honor to work with those in the LGBTQIA+ community and others who may have been marginalized in the past. I believe mental health should be accessible to everyone, no matter what.
I work with adults 18+ and groups within the community. I am trained in LGBTQIA+ Safe Zone training, Sexual Aggression Advocacy, and Suicidal Prevention/Ideation. The relationship between counselor and client is very important and special. I believe that by creating a person-centered environment, we can work together to address the presenting problem and create a plan to achieve your goals.
